Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what information is processed when you use subnauticainteractivemap.com (the "site"), why, and what choices you have. We have written it to be read, not skimmed past: the short version is that we do not run accounts, we do not sell personal data, and the map's own features keep everything on your device.
Who is responsible
The site is an independent fan project. For any question about this policy, email [email protected]. More ways to reach us are on the Contact Us page.
Information stored on your device by the map
The map remembers a few settings in your browser's local storage so they survive a reload. This data is created by you, stays on your device, and is never sent to us.
| Key | What it holds |
|---|---|
sim-found | The ids of markers you marked as found |
sim-cats | Which marker categories you switched on |
sim-custom | Markers you added yourself: their names and map positions |
sim-theme | Your light or dark theme choice |
You can remove this data at any time with the map's "Reset progress" button, by deleting your own markers, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Because we do not have a copy, we cannot restore it for you.
Information processed by our host
The site is delivered as static files by Cloudflare, Inc. To send you a page and protect the site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time of the request. Cloudflare may keep short-lived logs and may set a security cookie when it needs to tell people from automated traffic. This processing is necessary to run the site. Cloudflare describes its practices in its privacy policy.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and which devices they use, so we can fix problems and improve the map.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_*) and receives your IP address, browser and device details, the pages
you view and how you got here. We see only aggregated reports and cannot identify you from them. Google explains how it uses this data at
policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out with the
Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising and cookies
The site uses Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google LLC, to show ads that pay for hosting and development. When an ad is shown:
- Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Google may process your IP address, device identifiers and browsing information to select and measure ads. How Google uses information from sites that use its services is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choices:
- Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings. You will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
- Opt out of personalised ads from many third-party vendors at aboutads.info (United States) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The map works without cookies.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for consent through a consent message before cookies are used for personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time from the link that message provides. Without consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.
What we do not do
- We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, email addresses or payment details through the site.
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to fix the issue you reported, and we delete correspondence that is no longer needed within twelve months. Email to our address may be forwarded by our email provider to the team's inbox.
Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)
Hosting and security processing rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. Analytics and personalised advertising cookies rely on your consent where the law requires it. Replies to your emails rely on our legitimate interest in answering you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and US state laws such as the CCPA, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Most data about your visit is held by Cloudflare and Google rather than by us; we will help you reach them. To make a request, email us with the subject "Privacy request". We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
Children
The site is a general-audience game guide. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
External links
Markers and guides link to the Subnautica Wiki and other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Changes to this policy
If we change how information is handled, for example by adding a new service, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
